Overview

  • Tier One Technologies has an immediate need for a Sr. Functional & Automation Tester to support our US Government client.
  • This will be a 100% remote position.
  • SELECTED CANDIDATES WITHOUT REQUIRED CLEARANCE WILL BE SUBJECT TO A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION TO RECEIVE IT.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute functional and automated testing for modern applications, with a focus on quality, security, performance, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with Product, Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) teams to ensure solutions meet business requirements and quality expectations.
  • Lead sprint and release planning activities by identifying testing scope, test data requirements, and required test environments under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Lead or contribute to project planning by identifying testing scope, risks, environment needs, test data requirements, and testing tools required to support delivery timelines.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into test strategies, test plans, and detailed test cases covering functional, integration, regression, performance, and security validation.
  • Review business and technical requirements and assist in developing test cases, test scripts, and test data to validate workflows, edge cases, and error handling.
  • Execute hands-on functional, manual, and exploratory testing and document results clearly, including reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
  • Build and maintain automated tests, including unit, API, integration, and user interface (UI) tests, using established team frameworks and coding standards.
  • Validate event- and message-based services and distributed workflows, including systems utilizing message queues such as Apache Kafka, to ensure correct processing, resiliency, and traceability.
  • Test and validate API-centric and cloud-ready architectures, including microservices and serverless applications, with a focus on backward compatibility, contract requirements, and integrations with internal and external partners.
  • Log, track, and retest defects; participate in defect triage discussions and support root-cause analysis by providing clear observations and comprehensive test evidence.
  • Follow secure testing and data-handling procedures and escalate potential security or privacy concerns to the appropriate team members.
  • Contribute to Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) testing by executing automated test suites, reviewing results, and helping maintain reliable and maintainable test automation.
  • Maintain testing documentation, including test plans, test evidence, dashboards, and runbooks, to ensure releases are auditable and operationally ready.
  • Apply observability fundamentals, including logs, metrics, and alerts, to support troubleshooting and continuously improve test coverage.
  • Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to accelerate test creation and analysis while adhering to established quality and security guidelines.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support delivery, quality, and operational objectives.

Qualifications

  • A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance/control, software development and/or related field.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams and applying Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Familiarity with change/configuration management and lifecycle tooling (for example: VersionOne, ServiceNow) and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) practices.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (for example: Docker, Kubernetes), including security and environment considerations.
  • Experience with Kubernetes security practices and testing in containerized production-like environments.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development/testing tools such as OpenCode, Claude Code, and Gemini Vertex AI to improve efficiency in test creation and analysis (within approved governance).
  • Extensive experience testing software applications, identifying/documenting defects, and working with developers and end users to resolve defects.
  • Extensive experience with multiple defect tracking tools (e.g. Rational, Mercury).
  • Experience producing test evidence and documentation suitable for audit or compliance reviews.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a US Citizen or have permanent residence status (Green Card).
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
  • Must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
  • Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last 5 years. Military Service excluded.
