Overview
- Tier One Technologies has an immediate opening for a Sr. Systems Engineer to support our direct US Government client. This role involves providing architecture, management, and daily maintenance of the Microsoft Windows infrastructure, Microsoft Enterprise applications, and various third-party applications hosted on-premises and in Azure.
- This is going to be a 100% remote Contract-to-Hire position.
- SELECTED CANDIDATES WITHOUT REQUIRED CLEARANCE WILL BE SUBJECT TO A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION TO RECEIVE IT.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and monitoring of the agency's on-prem and cloud server infrastructure.
- Establish monitoring requirements for servers and applications as well as develop and deploy alerting strategies.
- Coordinate all maintenance activities including testing and scheduling for maintenance weekends and ensure that all change records have been approved prior to maintenance events.
- Assure implementation by working with staff on the goals and objectives of agency-wide programs, implement established goals and objectives, assesses measures that evaluate performance, and makes recommendations for program improvement.
- Develop mitigation strategies when vulnerabilities cannot be remediated, coordinate with IT Security for review and act on any directed changes.
- Upgrade and manage all domain services and work with various system owners to coordinate systems upgrades, system backups and hardware refreshes.
- Develop and submit change requests and tracks to completion hardware and software upgrades and patches.
- Develop technical architecture and documentation that details procedures for installation, maintenance, security, configuration, and disaster recovery while considering cost and performance impact.
- Respond to events and incidents with possible security architecture or negative user experience impacts; takes necessary corrective actions promptly.
- Plan, organize, and conduct research on complex infrastructure and client support issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation to identify appropriate solutions.
- Identify and resolve unique issues, provide innovative solutions to address new needs and/or issues and recommend enterprise upgrades, changes, or enhancements.
- Perform proactive monitoring of system logs, services, scripts, and applications on servers’ systems, storage arrays for internal and customer-facing applications.
Qualifications
- A degree from an accredited College/University in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- 6+ years of Systems Engineering/Administrative experience related to technologies listed below.
- Extensive knowledge administering and managing Microsoft Windows Server operating systems in a physical and virtual environment, including 6+ years of VMware experience and 3+ years of Azure Entra ID/Azure AD experience.
- Must have the ability to independently roll out and manage server infrastructure projects, hosting enterprise applications across multi-server farms.
- Expert working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy to manage enterprise environment. Ability to architect and deploy Active Directory DC design, Schema, OU design, AD replication topology, and DC backup/restore procedures.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Security for server and policy configurations (DOD STIG, server hardening, vulnerability remediation, baseline security configurations).
- Proficiency and experience with Azure administration portal, resource groups, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services.
- Experience working with PowerShell and other scripting tools.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and a consistent record of on-time delivery and customer service to include project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource management, effective time management, documentation, and organization skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to express and present ideas clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work off-hours and weekends as needed for maintenance, upgrades, installations, etc.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- All candidates must be a US Citizen or have permanent residence status (Green Card).
- Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
- Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last 5 years. Military Service excluded.
